Hi everyone !!

Finally both East & West coast get waves! I had a fun clean surf at La Jolla yesterday it was fireing! I was able to ride my DHD D1 rocker and it went awesome.

All BASE team riders have been getting great results over the last few months. They have all been happy with their designs and feedback is they feel good on top of the water. Matt Wilko looked great on his SIMON SXE2 at chopes. Mitch Colbourn has been racking up his WQS points with solid results. Koa Smith just picked up his new quiver and is off to Mex then Fiji. Ryan Hipwood has been working with DH on some mental guns that is allowing him to excel with the monsters he has been taking on! Alejo Munez just picked up his 10 DHD quiver for NY and they look great. Gabe Kling has been killing it on his MF Pro's and his D3's at Chopes. Sally winning the US Open on her DHD D1. Dusty Payne looking good on all his mag shots, he just had a board trip with DH in OZ to dial in his new quiver. Micks been working on new tweeks to his MF models and changes will be released soon. Granger Larson has been working up his new quiver of DHD short boards and getting great feedback. Bottle has been getting great pics and giving us awesome feedback on his new Bottled Lightning which has had great reviews already. The list of team news goes on and we will work on getting a BASE team blog up and running in the near future.

This Blue Wildebeest is the one that almost got Mr. Clint.....But I put it to sleep when it surprisingly charged us after 1 & 1/2 hours of chasing it down. It took 3 - 10 Gauge slugs to take this animal down. Sometimes you wonder all your life what you would do in a life and death situation, I now have the satisfaction of knowing. When a 600 lb wild Beast charges you at 30 ft away.....You don't run, even if it is your last shot.

Some will wonder why I went on this trip and what does a guy that's been surfing for 25 years want to do on a safari in Africa. Answer: I went for many different reasons but I will give you 3 simple ones - 1. It's a chance of a lifetime 2. It's a release of tension towards thieves (Jason Highland etc..) and other criminals (mostly Government) 3. It's part of God's plan for the 2ND half of my life.....sand collection, art & world travel stories & Experience. Read Genesis 9:2 if your concerned about the animals & if you still don't understand.....Then "Go To Sleep"

Africa Update: The Wart Hog is six feet deep & on the grill tonight

AFRICA UPADATE: The Blue Wilderbeest & a Jackal are 1st 2 kills

Well.......Africa is everything that I thought it would be. A Very Rough & Tough Land. Today, I shot a Blue Wilderbeest with my 10 gauge side by side shotgun with slugs. I really thought the Beast would drop the 1st shot after hiking miles for hours and crawling 200 yards on my hands and knees to get in close enough to make a shot with the 10 gauge that had no scope. It ended up taking three slugs/shots & I was on my last shot in the gun when the Blue Wilderbeest charged me at 20 yards. I was really glad he fell because I'm no bull rider. The Animal was about 600 lbs & a very old bull in the heard. I should be able to post a pic tomorrow!

The Jackal happened on the very 1st night about 4 hours after we got off the plane. It was my very 1st kill in Africa with my very 1st shot. The locals were super happy to get rid of another Jackal (Looks like a small wolf) They terrorize the farm animals all the time.

Dead or Alive

As Christian Surfers, sometimes we are guilty of proclaiming our faith without backing it up with our actions.

This past summer at Christian Surfers Prep School I was reminded once again of what it really means to be a Christian. The studies allowed us to reflect on how to be a true friend in Christ to the surfers that are in "our world". We were challenged to remember that when we "see a need, meet it". Each step that we were taken through invited us to take action. To be a true friend, one must know the other-not just know their name or know their favorite surf spot. To truly know another, a relationship must be formed. Sometimes the only way to meet a persons spiritual needs is by meeting their relational needs first. Among the list of ways to do this is by prayer and service.

We must pray for our friend, interceding on their behalf with our creator. It's surprising how much closer I feel to my friends when I pray for them. It allows my heart to experience empathy for their current situation and it also helps me engage in conversation with my friend by asking them for updates on what's going on in their life.

Service is what helps make our faith complete. Without service, our faith is dead. Let's not just say, "God bless you." Let us bless them by our service to their needs. If you see someone struggling to get their boards strapped on their car, why not help them out? If your friend is really anxious and stressed, let's give of our time and pray with them. Don't just watch someone struggle with carrying groceries... help! Just as I was challenged this summer to see a need and meet it, I encourage you to do the same. Let's not just say what we believe, let's live it.

Volcom: They have not returned or responded to any of the Pit Surf Shops phone calls in 10 years and have made it obvious to me that they do not care about the core shops any more as well as being professional in their response etc. I also feel that they along with many other surf companies (Ex. LOST) provide the wrong image & model for young adults to idealize "Black Stones" & the surroundings that they create in any event they put on and promote. Maybe the goal is for the stock price to go up BUT I can't get pass the destruction of youth and the wanna be pro athletes that follow suit in self destruction of party to be "cool" while ruining their chance in the surf industry. Soooo there you guys have it, The PIT's take on Volcom & LOST. I don't plan on letting my kids ever wear this gear, seeing as how it supports the wrong things in surfing & encourages kids to be rebels against society. There is a old saying that goes like this: "If you don't take a stand for something, You're sure to fall for anything"......

"A Quiver"

Quiver We've looked at how God intends, throughout life, to mold into HIS followers the character and priorities of Jesus. Let's look a little closer at what that means. Romans 8:28-29 God has been unfolding this amazing story from before time began. It has now come time for our scene to go across the stage. While that is occurring God intends to bless us by showing HIS greatness to us and the world as HIS plan unfolds. His favorite instrument in all this: mankind. Because of that, HE must kill in us the broken stuff we enter the world with, like selfishness and form Jesus in us to become self-less. As HE does this in so many attributes of our character, it reveals HIS beauty to the world. We often forget the great honor it is to be used by HIM and seek to find other and better ways for God to build HIS Kingdom. Look at what E.M. Bounds says about this in "Power Through Prayer": Men are God's method. The church is looking for better methods; God is looking for better men...What the church needs today is not more machinery or better, not new organizations or more novel methods, but men whom the Holy Spirit can use... the Holy Ghost does not come on machinery, but on men. He does not anoint plans, but men. As God looks down into the hearts in our lineups and sees the abundance of pain and suffering that is often hid from the naked eye HE has a solution: Good News. Then HE reaches into HIS "quiver" for that "magic board" for just this moment. There are many tools like technology, print, great events but these are tools not instruments. No, HE walks past them all and lays HIS hand on an instrument. HE smiles as HE remembers where this particular instrument came from and how HE has reshaped it to be used in this season. And what HE pulls from the rack is YOU. Are you rejoicing in suffering knowing that as HE sands off the rough edges that you will be better used on the day HE chooses? Are you yielding to HIS plan because your affections have been captured by HIM? Are you seizing the day for HIS glory or thinking of some other method that would work better than your weakness being empowered by HIS strength? Rejoice today that God is molding the character of Jesus into you in order to reveal HIMSELF through you.

The PIT's Take On Rainbow Sandals and their owner "Sparky"

The video below is pretty freaking good, I must say.....A while back we use to carry Rainbow Sandals at the PIT but after learning about how impossible to deal with the owner of Rainbows was, we decided to QUIT carrying cheaply made product that is over priced and nothing like the Rainbow Sandals use to be. We suggest that you look into wearing Sanuk & or Ocean Minded Product since they give back to the surf industry and make a superior sandal to that of ANY rainbow we have come across. Enjoy the video because we sure had fun making it!

The "Wyndham" - "WIN-Duhh" - "Winnydaham" BB "Hired Gun" & Newest Challenge Youngest PIT Sales Associate

Ok....Lets just say this: We don't ever ...Ever...NEVER EVER hire people under the age of 20-23 because of their inexperience in life and their lack of work ethic's etc these days..... BUT we recently Hired this little BB Gun that impressed us on her application. She truly is an "electric" personality...JUST remind her to SMILE if she seems too Focused or Unfocused for that matter. She lacks nothing in the confidence department and has those sharp shooter eyes that are required to function in BB Gun status here at the PIT. She will need it, when just shooting the BB gun. We'll have to see if she can relate to every one of YOU that walk in the door and not just who she thinks she should at the time. I'm sure she will do just fine as long as her managers don't have to "fire" at her to too much (She is outgunned) BUT.....she is certainly bright enough, smart enough & more than capable to talk about surf & skate for a girl her age. BEWARE....."She thinks" that she is or will be a .45 Semi Auto Kimber. We'll have to see if her actions speak as loud as her wordzzzz.....Welcome to the PIT Crew Miss Wyndham. We all here at the PIT "Hope" you make it to "Red Ryder BB Gun" status by the end of the month & we'll see what "caliber" of a person you are at the end of summer...We Hope & pray for you NOT to get fired at by the AA-12, Old Henry or whatever the owners gun is that day. Probably "Gatlin Gun" mode soooo "find some cover" in teaming up with your Managers & other sales associates!!

On a side note: PLEASE let us know if you ever experience stink eye in our shop because that is NOT what the PIT is about.

This Red Headed Brooklyn skater Girl PIT .22 Caliber "Hired Gun" is a Sharp...Sharp Shooter for sure! Elly has been with us almost 2 years now and survived a summer at the PIT when I was not really sure what we had hired until after the summer was over. She is one of the most responsible, hard working & intelligent individuals that I've come across in conversation for some time. She juggles 3 jobs as well as Flagler College and her responsibilities to her family. This Hired Gun likes to reach out and touch you as well on a lot of different levels but the one she is most naturally talented at is the ability to Market the PIT through Social Media and throughout her strong Network of friends. You know this type of person well.....She is the Girl that everybody loves because of the "HEART" she willingly displays when around any person! No matter what that person is like or how long she has known then, Elly is truly friend to all & enemy of few, if not none. To understand her better, watch the video below on her type of gun & you will see why the PIT is lucky to have this young lady and her talents. Mr. Bodie Walker (AKA: Bike rider) is truly the classic old Henry rifle that is the best hired gun for long shots and accuracy. Bodie has lived a life of surf & skate that really can't be matched by many in this industry and HE KNOWS HIS STUFF!! I dream of having a memory like Bodies and enjoy surfing & hanging with this great friend and "Floor Manager" of the PIT. I get more compliments on Bodie than any other employee that I've hired over the years. BEWARE: If he feels you are insulting his knowledge or questioning his experience of the sports we love then he is sure to put down the Old Henry and break out the colt six shooter on you in the nicest way you have ever been taught....He Will take you to school at times & you not even know it until you have left and can't say enough GREAT things about that Gnarly looking guy at the PIT that HELPED you with every little want, need or deserve you had. HE truly is a unique, engraved and experienced old Henry Rifle that delivers when ask. This would be no other than Mr. Rhys Slaughter (The PIT's MANAGER) & Hired Gun: The "AA-12 Shot Gun". Only the Video can describe what this individual is capable of but I will try here & now: He knows how to "Slaughter", Execute and efficiently run a business with out stress or wearing out. His ability in the Online Internet World-Wide-Web and warfare that is currently going on in the surfing industry with some suppliers trying to sell out the Core shops is impressive. Those companies online should be very careful what A PIT surf shop is "packing" as well as any other Core surf shop out there that is NOT masquerading as a clothing shop with no Surfboards or skate for that matter. He is a VERY professional and calculated individual that is seasoned from many different sources before he rolled up on the PIT scene on 1-11-11. Yes, that's right: January 1st 2011, Mr. Slaughter came in the shop and interviewed with Clint. beware, He sometimes likes to shoot a 9mm.....& Clint really finds all of this interesting and kind of laughable at how GOD always takes care of The PIT and his situation by always putting the right people in place at the right time. It is and always will be HIS "Perfect Intense Timing" when one knows HIM and lives a live in HIM....

More than likely, we will also dumb it down for those who don't understand the Gun analogies/Metaphors and we will also describe these individuals as a collection of "Surfboard's" in the following weeks....Please keep in mind that we're just blogging away and just trying to expand your mind to understand the PIT(Don't take things too serious. WITH THAT SAID: We are very lucky at the PIT to have such a high "Caliber" of people working and they love helping YOU with whatever it may be. Get to know these people and you won't be disappointed. Treat them with love & respect.....THEY CERTAINLY deserve it!! (In most cases). ummmm, should we start with the bb gun, .22 revolver, Old Henry Rifle or the A-12 Shotgun? To be fare......to these guys, I will start with the owner and then make sure they are cool with being featured this week. I Guess the Owner of the PIT is like a "Collection of guns" as one of the sales associates once said BUT I would have to say that "lately" he has been in "Taser Gun" Mode. From getting broken into & tracking down the people involved, as well as "shocking" all types of people from Reps, Family, friends, customers & colleagues at how well a business can operate even after it loses it's Manager of 4 years to a Supplier. However, Mr. Richardson needs to quit drinking those Monster Energy drinks and just pick up a "piece" of bamboo and just start planting it. Ella Grace Richardson was born on June 14th 2010 about 2 years after we got married. The news was announced to her daddy when her mommy & I were on a getaway trip to the Country of Panama. We Named here Ella Grace for several reasons that relate back to our families but Ella means "From A Foreign Land". I knew that this little one would be something special because GOD "graced" us and answered our prayers!! If you're kind like Forest Gump or Gomer Pile and can't see GOD's work all around you in nature then just look at any little new born baby and you will most certainly see that this can only happen from GOD!! In HIM, We give thanks for Ella Grace Richardson.

EVER WONDER WHY YOUR LIFE FEELS OUT OF BALANCE?? Read Below:

As Christian Surfers, sometimes we are guilty of proclaiming our faith without backing it up with our actions.

This past summer at Christian Surfers Prep School I was reminded once again of what it really means to be a Christian. The studies allowed us to reflect on how to be a true friend in Christ to the surfers that are in "our world". We were challenged to remember that when we "see a need, meet it". Each step that we were taken through invited us to take action. To be a true friend, one must know the other-not just know their name or know their favorite surf spot. To truly know another, a relationship must be formed. Sometimes the only way to meet a persons spiritual needs is by meeting their relational needs first. Among the list of ways to do this is by prayer and service.

We must pray for our friend, interceding on their behalf with our creator. It's surprising how much closer I feel to my friends when I pray for them. It allows my heart to experience empathy for their current situation and it also helps me engage in conversation with my friend by asking them for updates on what's going on in their life.

Service is what helps make our faith complete. Without service, our faith is dead. Let's not just say, "God bless you." Let us bless them by our service to their needs. If you see someone struggling to get their boards strapped on their car, why not help them out? If your friend is really anxious and stressed, let's give of our time and pray with them. Don't just watch someone struggle with carrying groceries... help! Just as I was challenged this summer to see a need and meet it, I encourage you to do the same. Let's not just say what we believe, let's live it.

My Mom is a Winner and I Feel Like One Too!

As some of you already know, my mother has had some heart problems over the last year and just a few days ago in Orlando while playing with Mickey & Minnie, She took a bad fall and dislocated 2 fingers and broke one. This in turn led to a heart attack & blood clot in her main "LED" artery if I stand correct. She has had 34....YES 34 Catherization operations and has beat this genetic disease that seems to "try" and frustrate her in her ability to enjoy life, serve God and be the best she can be..... BUT my moms a "Richardson" and is a fighter!! I ask all of you who know HIM to pray to HIM (God) YES...GOD and ask him to be with my mother as she recovers from this experience. Life seems to throw a lot us sometimes & it's not our place to question why, but rather deal with it and grow from it. MY MOM's A WINNER!!! Love You MOM. Your son CLINT

The World Of Competitive surfing....Aussie explained

You generally go surfing to avoid numbers. You generally go surfing to avoid almost everything. But pro surfing, bless its socks, is essentially all about turning surfing into numbers. This is how they plan to do it at Snapper Rocks. The basic premise is that 36 surfers enter, but only one bloke leaves with the giant novelty cheque, the trophy and the number one rating on the ASP ladder. When examining how this game works there are two things to consider; the contest format and the judging criteria.

The format. The contest starts with 12 three-man heats where nobody is eliminated. From there it's two man-on-man rounds, the losers being consigned to Coolangatta airport or the Coolangatta Sands Hotel. But it's once it gets down to the last 12 surfers that it gets really interesting. Last year the ASP introduced an experimental round – four three-man heats – designed to free things up a little. The brains behind the new format – ASP judge Pritamo Ahrendt – describes what it's all about. "It's created a round where you're going to have three major players in a heat, all in a position where they get a big advantage if they win – they go directly to the quarters – but they don't get eliminated if they lose. There's a big incentive to win the heat, but no punishment if you lose because you're not eliminated. It will allow the 12 best guys in the contest to go for broke." From that point it's back to man-on-man until one bloke walks away with $50,000.

Okay, now the criteria. They'll give you the official line, there'll be words used like "flow" and "combinations" and it's all a bit cryptic. Basically, they just want to see guys light it up, take chances, and produce exciting shiz. The judging criteria was tweaked last year to encourage innovative surfing, while still recognising the kind of classic turns that have always been regarded as good surfing. Halfway through last year's tour, ASP Head Judge Richie Porta summed up the impact the new criteria was having. "If you look close at the big scores and how they're getting them, that combination of major manoeuvres is the big driver. When guys can link three big turns together, three different turns without missing a beat, they're the guys getting the big scores. We've tightened up at the top end of the scale, and we've tightened up on nice surfing. Nice surfing just doesn't cut it anymore. The wow factor is what's scoring, whether it's Kelly's alley-oop, Jordy's Superman, Dane's big carving hack at Snapper or Taj's combinations. We'd rather see guys putting their whole body and soul into their surfing, rather than cruising along, doing a few turns and trying to bluff us by waving their arms around a bit. Those days are well and truly gone."

But of course the criteria is all relative to where you're surfing, and the judges look for different things at different breaks. In all likelihood the Quiksilver Pro will be held at Snapper, and Snapper gives you a bit of everything. The judges will be looking for throaty barrels behind the rock, followed by a combination of rail turns and airs on the wallier inside section. If you really wanna see what floats the judges' boat, track down a clip of Dane and Parko's quarterfinal from Snapper last year. That kind of says it all, really.

As a surfer, I've never been all that concerned with what people think. I've walked into conferences with wet hair and sandy feet. I've even gone to church barefoot, but I can't imagine inviting special friends over for dinner and then throwing a few leftovers into the microwave to serve up to them. If I were to do that, it would speak volumes about how I really feel about them.

Giving God the leftovers of our lives speaks volumes about His true worth to us. When God asked Abraham to give Isaac back to Him as an act of worship, Genesis 22:1 calls it a test. A test to see if there was anything in his life that he treasured more than God.

It's no different for us. There are times when God requires something really important to get His work done. He'll ask us to give up our natural instincts of seeking revenge so that we can communicate His forgiving love by forgiving our enemies. He may call us to sacrifice portions of our time or money or comforts to advance His cause. The way we respond to what He requires says volumes about how we really feel about Him.

What will you serve up this month? This week? Today? Right now? Anyone can offer the leftovers. Only those who love God more than anything else will serve up the very best for Him.
