I have to say.....Joel Tudors interview in this months Surfer magazine could not be more accurate in what the surf culture has become...."unfortunately". Here is just one paragraph of Joel's response & description of the surf culture now:

It's a different time. I mean the kids these days think it's normal to take a Filmer to the beach and make a video about yourself and put it up on the Internet. For some reason it is completely cool to blow your own horn in 2012. Like there's nothing wrong with being an egomaniac and basing your entire existence from sunup to sundown on producing yourself as a cool person. In my day, if you did that, you were done. My car would still be getting destroyed every time I parked it in the lot. Today it's all about yourself and how to make yourself seem cool. How much talent you have doesn't seem to matter. It's cool to film and make videos and all that crap, but not if that's your sole purpose for surfing. If you can't go to the beach and have fun without a Filmer or photographer, well somethings wrong.

Kling reppin' the 904 at the 2012 Lowers Pro

Two years ago local hero Gabe Kling stood on top of the world with a JAGS flag in hand after winning the 2010 Nike Lowers Pro.  This weekend Gabe looks to take on the rest of the ASP with hopes of reclaiming his title. Mick Fanning takes Bells ASP #2

April 6, 2012 – Mick Fanning (AUS), 30, has claimed the 2012 Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach presented by Ford Ranger over reigning 11-time ASP World Champion Kelly Slater (USA), 40, in offshore three-to-five foot (1 – 1.5 metre) waves at Bells Beach.Event No. 2 of 10 on the 2012 ASP World Championship Tour, the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach culminated in dramatic fashion today with pundits calling it the “best Final in event history.”The Australian and American went blow for blow throughout the 35-minute bout, exchanging massive scores and the lead several times before the dust settled.“I’m so pumped,” Fanning said. “Kelly (Slater) did that Hail Mary for the 10 and I thought, ‘oh, here we go.’ I just caught waves and I’m stoked it all paid off. I’m really at a loss for words and I’m just pumped. It doesn’t get any sweeter. The crowd’s been amazing with the whole amphitheater and the history that comes with it. I always picture this event and have had some seconds over the years, so to get this one, I’m so pumped.”
